How to Block Numbers on the iPhone 6S

When you are calling someone, and as long as they have caller-ID enabled (which many modern phones will), your phone number or name will show up on their device when they answer it. However, there might be some reasons why you may not want them to know who is calling. We won’t get into all the possible scenarios where this could be useful, but there are definitely some benefits to being able to block or hide your phone number when calling other people on the iPhone 6S.

However, if you have never done that before, there is a good chance you don’t know where to go in the Settings to make the change. Thankfully, it is actually quite easy on the iPhone 6S to hide your number from others. Within only a few minutes, you can ensure that no one can see your number or name when you call them.

There are even a few different ways you can block and hide your number from others. Whether they involve taking advantage of a certain feature on the device, or contacting your carrier, they are all fairly quick and easy to do. So without any further ado, let’s take a closer look at the various methods you can use to hide or block your phone number on the iPhone 6S when calling others.

Hide Your Number By Contacting Your Carrier

If you want all of your phone calls to be blocked always, you can contact your cell carrier and ask that they permanently block your caller ID. There is often a charge for this service and the fee attached to the service will range depending on which provider you are with. This may not be available or work with every single cell phone carrier, but you can definitely give them a call and see.

But while your device is now permanently blocked, there is a way you can unblock your number on certain calls. If you live in the USA, simply type *82 before you dial a number and your number will be visible to the call recipient.

Hide Your Number By Using a Calling Prefix

In many different countries, you can actually enter a code before you dial a number and this will cause your phone number to be blocked. The code that you input will depend on what country you are in, and who your service provider is. Also, it is not possible in some countries to block your number from recipients. This method is quite easy as all you have to do is type in the code, and then follow it up by typing the phone number like normal. For blocking your number in the USA, the prefix is *67.

Hide Your Number Through the Settings on the iPhone 6S

However, the easiest and simplest way to block others from seeing your number when you call them is by utilizing a feature that is already included in the iPhone 6S. This can be found in minutes and will easily let you choose when you want your number to be blocked, and when you do not.

Step 1: Open the Settings app and then hit the Phone menu.

Step 2: Navigate down to Show My Caller ID.

Step 3: Simply toggle the slider to off, and your number won’t show up when you call people

Step 4: This can be changed as often as you want. It is also a good idea to test it out with a friend or family member to make sure it works.

So by using either one of these few methods, you should easily be able hide your number from the people you are calling. If for some reason it doesn’t work, it’s a good idea to reach out to Apple or your carrier and inquire about why it is not working.
