How to Download Disney Plus on Toshiba Smart TV

Disney fans have anxiously awaited the release of the company’s first-ever streaming service. Now that the service is finally here, it pays to get a better understanding of how to download it on your Toshiba Smart TV.

The download and installation are not complex by any means, but Toshiba Smart TVs aren’t on the list of supported devices. Don’t worry. You’ll still be able to watch your favorite Disney titles, if the download and installation might require some lateral thinking.

Disney Plus Smart TV Compatibility

From the get-go, Disney Plus is available on Samsung and LG smart TVs. It’s not clear why some other big names like Toshiba have been left out, but this is likely to change in the future. Anyway, most Toshiba Smart TVs run on Android TV, Fire TV, or Smart TV Alliance.

If you own a model that runs on Fire or Android TV, you’re in luck. Because there’s native support for Disney Plus. To be exact, you should be able to download the app directly onto your TV. But those whose Smart Toshiba runs on Smart TV Alliance, need to find other ways to install and use the app.

We’ve covered both ends and the following sections include methods that should work on any Toshiba Smart TV OS.

Downloading Disney Plus

Direct Method

As indicated, this applies to Toshiba models that work with Fire TV and Android TV, but there’s a catch. Some older models may be limited to the preinstalled streaming apps, even though they run on Android. In this case, you can move onto the next method.

Step 1

Get your remote and navigate to the TV’s home menu, from there you can access the Smart TV menu. Certain models have a Smart TV button on the remote or they enter the smart menu as soon as you hit the home button.

Step 2

Now, you need to navigate to the PlayStore or just Store. This option usually appears under the Apps tab or in the menu on the left. This depends on the Toshiba model and firmware version and you shouldn’t struggle to find it.

Step 3

Once inside the store, use the search bar to look for Disney Plus. Highlight the bar and use the remote to type the name of the app and hit OK.

Interesting Fact: Toshiba offers a Smart Remote app that should work with all smart TVs and you can get the app via Play Store.

Step 4

Select the Disney Plus app under search results and hit OK on the remote to access more actions. Choose Install or Download in the app window and wait for the system to do its magic. There’s usually a notification when the download completes and you can then open the app.

Alternative Method

The good news is that Disney Plus is also compatible with Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Therefore, if you can’t install the app directly, feel free to do it on your console.

The following sections provide explanations for the Xbox One, but the steps are almost the same on PlayStation 4. And you should know that installing the streaming service on a console doesn’t compromise audio and video quality in any way.

Step 1

Start up your Xbox and move to the right form the home screen to reach the Store. Then you need to enter the Store and look for the app. The great thing is that the menu may sometimes offer Disney Plus by default and you won’t need to use the search bar.

Step 2

Choose Install when you enter the app’s main window and wait for the system to complete the action. Depending on your internet speed, the download and installation might be done in under a minute.

Note: The verbiage on PlayStation 4 is a bit different. You access the Apps menu and hit the Download button in the Disney Plus app window. Other than that, the actions are exactly the same and you use the joystick for navigation.

Bonus Method

If you don’t own a console, there’s also an option to install Disney Plus on a streaming gadget. The service is compatible with the Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, as well as Chromecast-enabled dongles.

The great thing is that you install it the same way you do any other service or app. Choose Apps or Store, search for Disney Plus, and click Get, Install, or Download. Truth be told, this isn’t exactly the same as having the app on your TV but you can enjoy the content nonetheless.

Tip: There’s also an option to cast the screen from your smartphone, tablet, or computer to Toshiba Smart TV. But this method might jeopardize the image quality.
