Love them or hate them, Instagram stories are where things happen online.

How to Make Text Appear or Disappear in Instagram Stories

Since their launch, users have found new, exciting ways to share snaps of their experiences and/or emotions.

One of the most popular recent effects on stories is “moving text.” A feature where a custom text appears on the story’s image and then disappears right away.

If you’re an avid Instagram user, you’d know that this isn’t possible with the built-in features. So how do they do it?

Let’s find out right now.

Step 1: Download the Third-Party App

Instagram has a variety of third-party apps to enhance your user experience. Millions of people download these apps every day because of the added features and accessories.

Most of these apps have one specific purpose: to make your text as impressive as possible.

Notably, there are two popular apps that you may use here.

  1. If you have an Android smartphone device, you can use Hype Text (Get on PlayStore).
  2. If you’re using an iOS device, there’s an alternative in Hype Type (Get on AppStore).

In fact, you can find a bunch of similar apps at these stores. Therefore, you can experiment and find the best possible effect, for example.

The user interface, as well as handling these apps, is relatively similar. However, for the purposes of this article, we’ve used the Hype Text for an Android device.

Once you download a suitable app, you should move on to creating your animated text.

Step 2: Create Your Animated Text

Once you install the app, it’s time to make your “disappearing text.”

The sole purpose of these apps is to create crisp animated text, so it’s incredibly user-friendly. Here’s what you have to do:

  1. Launch the app.
  2. Choose what kind of Instagram story you would like to make.
Note: You can choose to leave text only on a blank background. However, you can also use any photo from your gallery or snap a new one with your camera—the same as with posting a usual Instagram story.
  3. Double-tap the screen to add text (after you’ve chosen the desired option).
  4. Type out your text. Make sure it’s not too long; otherwise, the animation may look a bit awkward. Press the checkmark above your keyboard when you’re done.
Note: Some apps have cool added features that allow you to post custom text. For example, Hype Text can generate random romance, wisdom, motivational quotes that you could use.
  5. Press the “Text Effects” button at the bottom of the screen.
  6. Choose the desired “appear/disappear effect.”

Keep in mind that some animated text only appears and lasts throughout the length of the story. Luckily, you’ll always have a visual demonstration of the effect, so you can see it for yourself.

For instance, the “Box” effect from the Hype Text app will display a frame surround your text as it appears, and they’ll both slowly disappear.

Additionally, you can add some other effects by pressing the “effects” button next to “text.” After you’ve gone through all combinations and made a perfect photo, it’s time to post it.

Step 3: Add Your Image to Instagram Stories

You’ll have to save your image before you post it to Instagram. You can do that by tapping the checkmark icon at the top-right of the screen.

The app will prompt you that it’s saving, but the image won’t go to your storage yet. Instead, you can choose whether you’d like to save it or share it directly to Instagram (or other apps).

If you want to share it to Instagram, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Tap the “Share” button at the bottom of the screen (the button looks like an Instagram icon).
  2. Choose “Stories” if you want to post it as a story.
  3. Tap “Send to” at the bottom-right of the screen.
  4. Choose “Your Story.”

Wait for the process to finish.

Afterward, close the third-party app and launch your Instagram to see if the story’s there. If you’ve done everything correctly, you’ll have a shiny new story with text that appears and disappears.

How to Send Disappearing Text in Instagram DMs

One native feature the social media does have is sending text messages that disappear. You can type whatever content you want and the recipient can only read it for a short time. Known as ‘Vanish Mode,’ Instagram also sends alerts when someone takes a screenshots.

Enabling ‘Vanish Mode’ is really simple. Just follow these steps:

  1. Open Instagram and go to the conversation where you’d like to send a message.
  2. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and tap ‘Get Vanish Mode.’
  3. Now, type your message and tap on the paper airplane icon to send it.

Instagram may need to perform an update before this feature is available for you. But, it is a simple update to enable the feature so if you run into a pop-up screen before the message screen appears, simply tap the option to update before proceeding.

Luck of the Third-Party

Always be careful before you download a third-party app that links to Instagram or other social networks.

Apps like Happy Text are tried and tested with millions of users and have positive ratings. However, even if some apps are on the official app stores, you’re allowing them access to your private data.

Therefore, your privacy and your device’s longevity should be a top priority. When you settle that, you can easily focus on shiny Instagram stories.
