If you search the StockX FAQs and online articles, you’ll find nothing about how to remove your payment method. You will, however, find articles all about what payment methods they accept. You can try editing your payment method, but it always leads to pages asking you to upload yet more new payment information.

So, what’s going on? Is there a way to remove a card from StockX?

Once You Create a Payment Method

Let’s say that you’ve already added a payment method. The payment methods they accept are all major credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Alipay, Sofort, and iDEAL payment. Once you’ve added a payment method, you’re unable to remove it. All you can do is close down your account and then wait 28 weeks. After waiting long enough, you can set up a new account using the same information but with a new email address, thus creating a fresh account minus your old payment details.

That way, you’d have a fresh account with a new payment method. And if you don’t like the idea of your payment information being held for weeks and months, pay with something like PayPal because all they take is your email address; it’s not like adding a credit card where you have to store sensitive information.

Is There No Way to Remove Your Card?

The only chance you have is to appeal to the customer service department. They have a team dedicated to answering questions about buying and selling, which includes answering questions about your account. Their hours of operation are 4am – 9pm EST, 7 days a week. They ask that you don’t send multiple emails because they answer questions in the order they’re received.

Here’s the “Contact Us” page. If you enter your account email address, you won’t need to enter a primary order number. You must then select the type of question you have, which in this case is “Account”. On the contact form, you may then enter a description of your problem. Explain that you’d like to remove one of the payment methods from your account. Tell them which one it is, and see what they say in response.

StockX doesn’t make it clear that they will remove your payment method, and there’s nothing in the terms and conditions that says they have to remove your payment information at your request.

Why Is It So Difficult to Remove Your Card from StockX?

Unfortunately, the StockX team doesn’t offer answers. If you contact them and ask them why there’s no on-website method to remove card payments methods, they refer you to their terms and conditions, where it states they’re not obliged to remove your payment methods.

Yet, there may be a more obvious, albeit a just-as-unsatisfactory answer. Take your credit card company or PayPal where buyer and seller protection is iron cast. Now look at StockX, and their buyer/seller protection is more ambiguous. It is possible that they keep your payment information to help protect themselves. Let’s say you were pulling a selling or buying scam, they retain your information so they can charge you back if your maleficence is proven.

Them retaining your payment information makes it a little harder to cut and run if you have been up to no good on the website. Plus, it shows the user that they’re overtly keeping your information on file, which may also discourage poor behavior. Also, beware that StockX retains the right to refuse a refund, but by distance selling laws (Consumer Protection Laws), you can sue them for a refund, which may be worth it if you’re paying hundreds of dollars and receiving nothing in return.

Close Your Account and Wait

The only reliable method for removing your payment details with StockX is to close your account, wait six months, and then open it again. Or, close your account and start a new account with a new email address. There is a chance that the customer service department will remove your payment method, but they have no obligation to do so If you’re worried about your payment method, or security, don’t enter your payment information at all. Or use PayPal where all they require is your email address, which they already have.
