Discord’s proprietary chatbot, Clyde, was summarily removed from the platform in late 2023. Considering that you can’t enable Clyde on Discord anymore, that doesn’t mean that you’re out of options for chatting with an AI. Here are some of the best alternatives to Clyde on Discord.
Best Discord Bot Overall – MEE6

If you want an all-in-one Discord bot, MEE6 is probably the closest you’re going to get. It’s an amazing little bot that provides advanced moderation and customization options.
At base, MEE6 is a relatively simple chatbot that uses predetermined commands. Perhaps its most common use is to grant roles to people new to the server and send a quick hello message to specific channels.
But if you take a bit of time to familiarize yourself with its advanced command options, you can create a bot that can help you moderate a server with thousands of members. The bot also comes with social media and streaming platform integrations, allowing users to stream on Twitch and send notifications on Discord channels.
Plus, MEE6 comes with an XP leveling system that further gamifies your users’ Discord experience. They can get levels doing specific actions, sending messages, or being productive parts of the server overall.
Best of all, you can use the limited version of MEE6 with basic moderation features for free.
TauChat – ChatGPT for Discord

If you want the power of ChatGPT 3 or ChatGPT 4 at your fingertips directly in Discord, there are plenty of ChatGPT-like bots that you can use. However, TauChat is one of the more popular options, as it is being used on tens of thousands of servers.
The premise of TauChat is simple. It has a ChatGPT-like behavior, answering queries and creating results based on the input you provide. The bot only has a few basic commands, but that’s pretty much all you’ll ever need to use it anyway.
The bot provides results similar in quality, preciseness, and general creativity to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, making it an excellent addition to any server.
All you have to do is invite the bot into your server and create a new subscription. Unfortunately, this bot doesn’t have a free version.
Cleverbot – The Precursor to ChatGPT

If you want to go a bit oldschool, Cleverbot is the iteration of AI chatbots that came before ChatGPT hit the shelves. Cleverbot is more unpredictable and volatile than ChatGPT. While it can learn from the context of the conversation it’s in, Cleverbot’s responses are solely based on the context provided by the users.
Since it doesn’t really use a vast internet database, Cleverbot is also considered to be less useful when you want accuracy and facts from a chatbot. Additionally, one of the hallmarks of the bot is that it doesn’t really have a filter. Unlike ChatGPT, it won’t hesitate to discuss sensitive subjects (which it typically knows nothing about) and form opinions that might be considered risqué.
Cleverbot should, and is best used, purely for its entertainment value. However, it’s free to start with and you will never be able to predict what it comes up with.
Adding Bots to Discord
In general, adding a new bot to a Discord server is a straightforward process.
Step 1. Make sure that you have administration permissions for the server.
Step 2. Go to the bot’s home page.
Step 3. Click on the “Add Bot” link (or something similar to it).

Step 4. You’ll be redirected to your Discord. Log in with your account credentials and 2FA if needed.

Step 5. Give the bot permissions to chat and see messages.

Step 6. Give the bot the roles needed to send messages.

And that’s pretty much it. Each bot should come with instructions on how to use it and get started with basic customization.
