The Six Best Kodi Tips and Tricks: Got XMBC? Try These Tweaks First
Kodi is a great streamer, but with a few tweaks and add-ons, it can become the ultimate way to watch documentaries, TV shows, films, and sports. If you’ve just downloaded Kodi and want to get tinkering with it straight away, here’s a list of tips and tricks for XMBC.
Please note that many add-ons contain content that isn’t officially licensed, and accessing such content could be illegal. In short, if the content is free, but looks too good to be true, then it probably is.
Tip #1: Install Kodi on Another Device
XMBC is great for computers, but it’s often inconvenient to connect your PC to your TV every time you’d like to watch Kodi. Instead, download and install Kodi to smaller devices, such as the Google Chromecast or Fire TV 4K Stick. That way, you’ll be able to watch Kodi on your TV without connecting your laptop or computer.
- Allow installation from unknown sources on your Android TV.
- Enable ADB debugging on your Android TV.
- Download the Downloader App on your Fire TV Stick. You may also need to enable ADB debugging and unknown sources on the Fire Stick too.
- Download and install the Android Kodi installation file.

Tip #2: How To Stop Kodi from Buffering
Constantly buffering streams can be pretty annoying, but Kodi offers a simple way around them.
If you’ve got an unreliable or slow internet connection, all you need to do is reduce your stream’s quality, and you should see be able to watch stutter-free. It won’t be as crisp-looking as before – but you can’t have everything!
Tip #3: Become a Kodi Expert
Kodi is designed to be relatively easy to operate, but if you’re not used to anything outside the Windows or Apple ecosystem, it can be quite daunting. Before you even approach an add-on, it’s best to get up to speed by learning how to use Kodi.
Tip#4: Change Kodi Skins
Kodi looks appealing in its standard form, but as you’d expect from open-source software, the look and feel are customizable. If you want a different look, you can change the UI in Kodi.
Tip #5: Get Kodi Add-Ons
Kodi is compatible with a vast range of add-ons that make it even better for content. Whether you like music, live sports, or documentaries, there’s an add-on out there for you. Here’s a list of common Kodi add-ons to get you started.
Tip #6: Try a Different Kodi Build
If you’ve started to get the hang of Kodi and you’re pretty computer-literate, it might be worth trying another Kodi build. Simply put, a build is a ready-made version of Kodi with a brand-new skin along with all the best add-ons and more. Some versions are aimed at families, too, turning Kodi into an accessible entertainment source for the entire household.
As you can see, there are plenty of options when it comes to Kodi, but be sure to use a VPN if you decide to use third-party add-ons that support copyright infringement and abuse. Kodi does not endorse or promote copyright infringement, which is why the Kodi app excludes many add-ons in its base installation. Kodi only includes non-infringing apps such as image decoders, video decoders, PVR clients, visualization options, etc. The rest is up to you!
Please note that many add-ons contain content that isn’t officially licensed, and accessing such content could be illegal. It is the user’s responsibility to comply with all applicable laws in their country regarding use. Alphr excludes all liability for such content. We do not condone and are not responsible for the infringement of any intellectual property or other third party rights and shall not be liable to any party as a result of any such content being made available. In short, if the content is free, but looks too good to be true, then it probably is.
