What is it?
Nintendo’s latest and greatest games console, designed for the home and usable on the move. Technically, it’s not a match for the latest smartphones, although it’s more capable than its predecessor, the Wii-U. But what the Switch brings you is the Nintendo spirit and approach to games and gaming.

Why should you buy it?
It’s the culmination of over 30 years of Nintendo’s gaming hardware know-how, bringing in the sense of joy and wonder that Nintendo specialises in. This isn’t a platform for the kind of hardcore gamer who wants to blast realistic monsters – instead, it’s for gamers who want to capture a sense of joy and wonder from their games.
The hardware is well-designed and very much “Nintendo” levels of clever. Connect the Switch to your TV and you can play games on the big screen. Take it out, attach the “Joy-Con” controllers and it’s a portable games console. So far, so good.
But what elevates the Switch into “must-have” territory is the games themselves. There aren’t many of them, but titles like Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey are the kinds of titles that you’ll be talking about fondly in 10 or 20 years’ time. Nintendo has always been about the games, at the end of the day, and the Switch is no exception.
We called it “Nintendo at its absolute best” and we’re sticking with that. It’s lovely, and you should buy it.
