How to Join Friends’ World in Genshin Impact

Games are often better when you play with friends, and Genshin Impact is no exception. There are a few requirements to go through first, but after that, joining friends’ worlds can be a great way to progress in the game.

In Genshin Impact, joining a friend’s world takes a bit of time. However, you’ll learn how to do it here and how to do it quickly. We’ll also answer some of your questions on Genshin Impact.

Before you can gain access to start playing with others, you’ll need to play through a bunch of missions and main quests. It takes a while to unlock, but don’t worry; you’ll be able to play with others soon.

How to Unlock Multiplayer and Co-Op Game Modes?

To unlock Multiplayer and Co-Op modes, you need to play alone until your reach Adventure Rank 16. There are a few ways to achieve Rank 16, which are:

  • Clearing the Main Archon Quests in the Prologue.

First, you’ll reach the city of Monstadt, and visiting it counts as part of the main quests. Next, you’ll find yourself clearing three wind temples around the city. Main quests reward you with a lot of EXP, and the more you get, the sooner you can play with others.

  • Visit the Adventurer’s Guild in Monstadt.

After gaining access to the Adventurer Handbook, you can start getting more EXP. The Experience tab in the Handbook gives you plenty of Adventure Rank EXP when you start exploring. Cooking, opening chests, and activating the waypoints will yield some EXP.

  • Explore the Overworld.

There’s a lot of ground to cover, so you can get a lot of EXP this way. Waypoints, chests, dungeons, and Statues of the Seven will expand your map. Take your time; you’ve got lots of adventures ahead.

  • Daily Missions at Rank 12.

By reaching Adventure Rank 12, you get to start Daily Missions. They’re quite easy to complete and reset every day. They’re one of the best ways to gain Adventure Rank EXP and a host of other rewards too.

By the time you start doing all of these, you’ll be somewhat decent at Genshin Impact. It’s possible that the developers only allow you to unlock Multiplayer after some time spent in the game because no one likes weak teammates. Regardless, you can play with others after reaching Adventure Rank 16.

How to Play With Friends

At Adventure Rank 16, you can start adding friends. Without friends, you won’t have anyone to play with. Your friends must also be at least Adventure Rank 16, or else you won’t be able to join their world or vice versa.

Here’s how to add friends:

  1. Open the pause menu and select Friends.
  2. Go to the second tab in the Friends menu.
  3. Input the nine-digit UID number your friend gave you.
  4. Send the friend request.
  5. Once it’s accepted, you can start joining their worlds.
  6. To join, open the menu and select Co-Op Mode.
  7. Find a friend you want to play with.
  8. Select Request to Join.
  9. If accepted, you can start playing with your friends.

To host sessions, you do this instead after adding friends:

  1. Open the menu and select Co-Op Mode.
  2. Now, select My Multiplayer at the bottom-right corner.
  3. Choose from Allow Direct Join or Join After Approval.
  4. Wait for a friend to join your world.

You can also reject join requests entirely if you want to play alone. Because direct join requests allow any friends to join at any time, you might want to turn that off if you need to focus on main quests.

Multiplayer Not Working

There are a few possible reasons why you can’t join a friend’s world or they can’t join yours. These are all fixable, but there’s no guarantee we can list all the problems. Here are the most common ones you might encounter:

  • One Player Isn’t Adventure Rank 16.

If one player isn’t Adventure Rank 16, you can’t play with them at all. There are no exceptions to this rule whatsoever, so you both have to start ranking up. Until you’re both Adventure Rank 16, multiplayer isn’t possible.

  • Bad Connections.

Sometimes, bad internet connections can prevent players from playing in Co-Op Mode. A host should have a strong connection to allow for smooth gameplay. If you know someone has terrible internet, chances are the connection won’t let them host properly.

  • Bugs.

Sometimes, the problems aren’t your fault, but the game makes life difficult for you. In this blog post, a Genshin Impact player suffered from a strange bug that wouldn’t allow Co-Op play. Thankfully, it was fixed after a lot of help from the developers.

If something is wrong, you should contact the developers for help. It might take a while, but your efforts can also help others with the same problem. It’s worth waiting for the fix to arrive.

Multiplayer Restrictions in Genshin Impact

There are a few restrictions when you’re playing Co-Op Mode. The most important one is that you won’t be able to play Archon Quests and Story Quests during Co-Op Mode. You’re forced to play solo if you’re currently actively playing one of these or a quest manipulating the world.

After completing the quest, you’ll need to wait a while before Co-Op is available again. A way to speed up the process is to log out and back in again. This should let you play with friends once again.

If any activity requires entering the Co-Op Mode screen, even if you’re playing one of the above quest types, you need to reactivate it even if you’re in Single Player.

You can also join players whose World Levels and Adventure Rank ranges are lower than or equal to your own.

In Co-Op Mode with one friend, you can swap between two party characters. For three players, the host gets two to switch between characters, while the others get one each. In a full party, each person is stuck with one character.

You can freely change your deployed characters out of combat through the Party Setup menu. This lets you adapt to new missions on the fly.

The number of players in your party directly affects enemy numbers and variations through scaling. Be prepared to fight harder battles.

Does Genshin Impact Support Console Crossplay?

Yes, Genshin Impact is completely cross-platform. The crossplay is very good, allowing any platforms to play with each other, including consoles and PCs. Even mobile gamers can join your party and start farming bosses.

Currently, you can play Genshin Impact on these platforms:

– PC

– PS4

– PS5

– iOS

– Android

These platforms can freely host and join worlds. As long as the multiplayer requirements are met, there shouldn’t be a problem with playing with others.

However, while the game is fully cross-platform, it’s not fully cross-save. This means that PC and mobile gamers can access their accounts on each other’s devices, but PS4 and PS5 players can’t. The latter’s accounts are stuck on their PlayStations until further notice.

Sony has been rather reluctant to let games be cross-platform. While both Sony and miHoYo, Genshin Impact’s developers, have negotiated for cross-platform play, cross-save has yet to be implemented on the former’s consoles.

Perhaps in the future, all platforms will be transferrable across each other, including PS4 and PS5 accounts. MiHoYo also announced that a Nintendo Switch version is in the works. This was announced in January 2020, but there are rumors that Switch possesses inferior hardware.

Previous rumors also cite “microtransaction implementations” and a host of other problems as the reasons why Genshin Impact for Switch is continuously delayed. Some even think that should a “Switch Pro” ever come out, Genshin Impact will only be available on that console instead.

Despite this, Genshin Impact on the Switch will likely be cross-platform.

Host Up!

In Genshin Impact, joining a friend’s world comes with some restrictions. As long as you pass all requirements, you can start hunting bosses together. There’s always strength in numbers, but the game also becomes harder with more players in a party.
