How to Hard Factory Reset Sonos Soundbar
The advent of soundbars has been one of the most significant developments in sound systems over the last decade. Named aptly, these speaker systems consist of a single piece of equipment used to deliver atmospheric sounds without the need for a supplementary set of speakers or woofers.
Soundbar speakers can have issues, just like any other piece of hardware. You can solve minor problems with a simple restart, but severe issues might require a factory reset. Let’s see how to perform a factory reset on a Sonos soundbar.
The Coming of Sonos
While a motley of companies delivering high-end speaker systems already existed, the early 21st-century arrival of Sonos altered the soundscape in more ways than one. Designed as smart speakers that can work with a wide array of devices, Sonos speakers quickly rose to fame.
Nearly two decades later, Sonos soundbars, or Playbars as they are called, have given established juggernauts like Bose and JBL a run for their money. The Sonos’ ability to pair up with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri-enabled devices is its greatest advantage in the smart speaker world.
Some Additional Features
It’s easy to Install a Sonos soundbar. Depending on how you plan to use your new speaker system, you can set it up within a couple of minutes of unboxing.
Sonos soundbars can detect the type of sound you require remotely. Sonos’ AI is famous for how effortlessly it can attune itself to the user’s demands.
What’s even more interesting are additional features like the Speech Enhancement app, which Sonos launched. Using the app through your mobile device, you can set up the speaker so that whispered dialogues in a movie are as clear to the ear as top-of-the-lungs screaming.
But I’m Having Trouble
Do keep in mind that Sonos does warn that resetting your device will erase everything and therefore, a factory reset is not recommended for basic troubleshooting.
Although rare, there are times when you could run into trouble with a Sonos soundbar when trying to reconfigure it. For instance, if you’ve been using a Sonos Playbar with your TV, but now you want to carry it outside and connect to a Bluetooth device, there’s a slight chance that the Sonos could have trouble reconfiguring itself.
There are other times when your Sonos Playbar might fail to connect to your Wi-Fi network or fail to synchronize with Alexa or Siri. Maybe the Sonos speaker can’t play music without skipping. Such problems may well be attributed to other issues like interference, but if you’ve exhausted all options trying to fix your Sonos, there’s still a way out.
However, it’s easy to get out of such a situation. You can both soft and hard reset the Sonos Playbar. We recommend that you reboot your Sonos speaker if you’re having any issues. If a reboot doesn’t help, you might want to perform a factory reset.
We’ll tell you how to factory reset your Sonos soundbar in the following section. But remember that hard resetting your Sonos speaker will delete all data stored on it. Once the factory resetting is done, you can register the Sonos Playbar to a new email address. So, if you’re planning to give your Sonos Playbar to someone else, you’d need to do the hard factory reset before giving it away.
Before the Factory Reset
As mentioned above, Sonos recommends other steps before proceeding to a factory reset. It is for this reason we wanted to walk you through the basic troubleshooting options that may save you a headache later on. However, if you’re performing a factory reset because you want to sell or gift your Sonos Playbar, feel free to skip this section.
The company lists four main reasons that you’re having issues:
- Connections issues
- The WiFi network isn’t updated
- The Sonos device was not found during setup
- A missing product in the application
For each of these reasons, Sonos does have in-depth troubleshooting articles that you can find here. Of course, you’ll also find solutions to several other issues too such as playback problems and error codes.
Most of your problems are easily solved by turning off your device and turning it back on. But, if you’re having a connection issue you may want to reset your router or turn off your VPN. The Sonos Soundbar will not always cooperate with a VPN.
The Factory Reset Process
Follow the steps below to factory reset your Sonos Playbar.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall.
- Next, press and hold the Play/Pause button. While you’re holding the button, reconnect the power cord back into the wall.
- Continue holding the Play/Pause button until the light begins to flash amber and white.
- Continue holding the button. Once the light on the Playbar begins to flash green, you’ll know that your speaker has been successfully reset.
Your Sonos Playbar has been factory reset. All your data and connections are lost, but the device is as good as new. You might want to hard-reset Your Sonos speaker if someone else will use it long-term.
