How To Move Files to a PC from a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

If you want to safeguard your Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 files, you could easily save them to Xiaomi’s default cloud service. However, some people prefer to save files to their PC. If you’re one of those people, check out how to move your files in a few easy steps.

How To Move Files to a PC from a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

Move Files to PC via USB

Most Android smartphones allow you to move files between the device and a PC using a USB cable. If you want to save your media files to your PC, this is how to do it:

Step 1 – Connect Device to PC

First, connect your Redmi Note 4 to an available PC port using a USB cable. You will see a notification pop up on your screen when you plug in your device. Tap on it and select “MTP media files” to transfer files to your PC.

If this is the first time you are plugging your device into your PC, you may also have to download additional drivers. Windows will do this automatically, but you may need to wait a few minutes for this process to complete.

Step 2 – Move Files

Next, open the File Manager on your PC. Your device is listed under My Computer. Double-click on your device to open the folders.

Additionally, you may also want to open the location where you want to save the new files on your PC. This makes it easier to move files from one place to another.

Finally, to move files, you can either drag and drop or copy and paste from the device folder to the PC folder.

Keep in mind, however, that this method only works for media files (photos, audio, and video clips) that are not copyrighted.

Move Files to PC via an FTP Connection

You can also move files wirelessly via an FTP connection as long as both your device and PC are getting the internet signal from the same WiFi router.

Step 1 – Open Mi Drop

The Mi Drop feature is located in your Tools folder. Tap on the blue icon with the infinity symbol. This is your Mi Drop app, but depending on the theme you are running, it might not be named.

Step 2 – Set Up the Connection

Next, tap on the Settings icon in the upper right corner. This will bring up a pop-up menu. Tap on “Connect to computer” to bring up another screen that displays your WiFi status.

Start the process by tapping on the Start button at the bottom of the screen. Choose your storage options from the next pop-up screen. You can select between your device’s SD card and internal storage.

To set up your PC connection, open File Manager. Make sure that you are in This PC and enter the FTP address in the toolbar. This will open up the folders from your selected storage.

Step 3 – Move Files

Lastly, drag and drop the files you want from your device to your selected PC location. You can also copy and paste the selected files.

When you are finished moving files, be sure to tap Stop on your device to stop the connection to your PC.

Final Thoughts

Xiaomi makes it easy to move files from your Redmi Note 4 to PC. Select the method that works best for you, but for your own security, you might not want to use the FTP method with public hotspots.
