In Jun 2017, Uber introduced a stunning new feature enabling users to request and schedule a ride for someone else.

How To Order an Uber for Someone Else

In case your friend or loved one doesn’t own a smartphone or forgot his/her phone at home but desperately needs a ride, you can easily schedule an Uber ride for them. The only thing they need to do is wait for the car to arrive, as everything else can be handled via your smartphone.

In this article we’ll explain how to order an Uber for someone else using two popular methods. Regardless of the method you choose, make sure that you always have the latest version of the Uber app to avoid potential problems.

The First Method: Order a Ride for Someone Else Using Uber App on Your Phone

The following steps will show you how to order an Uber ride for someone using your mobile device:

  1. Open the Uber App
  2. Tap on “Where to?”
Order an Uber for Someone Else
  3. Switch the rider by clicking on the “For me” option
  4. Once the drop-down menu displayed your new options, tap on “Choose who’s riding”

From here you can allow the Uber app to access your contacts list and choose a phone number from there, or you can deny the access and enter the number manually. This should be a phone number of a person you are scheduling an Uber ride for.

After that, a new window will appear explaining the terms and conditions of this feature, so make sure to read everything and tap on Accept. This will take you to a new form where you will have to fill in your friend’s information.

Simply enter your friend’s first and last name and tap on Continue. The Uber app will then have your friend’s phone number and full name. Also, it is worth mentioning that the Uber driver also sees the information that you enter, so make sure that you enter everything correctly.

After you have done that, enter the location where the Uber driver should pick up your friend and then choose where they should drop them off. You will also be able to select between UberX, which is a cheaper option (cars that seat four or more people), and an Uber XL if your friend needs a larger vehicle (minivans and SUVs.)

To complete the process, tap on Confirm Uber, and your friend will get their ride in no time. They will also receive a link to a real-time Uber tracker so they can monitor their vehicle’s exact location while they wait.

The Second Method: Order a Ride for Someone Else Using Uber Family Profile

If you are looking for a more permanent solution, then Uber Family Profile is the way to go. Using this option you can add up to four people to one profile. All group members will be able to order rides for other members on the list.

You can set up a family account by following these steps:

  1. Open your Uber app
  2. Tap on the menu button (the three horizontal lines)
  3. Tap on Settings (usually the last option in the sidebar menu)
  4. Select the Add Family Profile option located in the Profile section
  5. Tap on Add Family Member – your contact list will be launched
  6. Search for a number you want to list as “family” and select it
  7. Tap on Send Invite

The family member you wish to add will receive your invitation, and all that they need to do is accept it.

The final step will require you to select a payment method.

Use the Taxi of the Future

Uber has grown rapidly since the app’s launch in 2010, and it’s getting better and better. The fact that this innovative company is continually upgrading its software and improving its services only shows that it has the potential to last for a long time and even provide better options than it currently does.
