How to Remove a Folder in Discord

Discord enables you to create folders for your servers. But, what if you want to delete a server folder and keep your servers separate?

How to Remove a Folder in Discord

In this article, we’ll show you how to remove a server folder. More importantly, you’ll learn how to manage, move, and customize folders on both mobile and desktop devices.

How to Remove a Folder From Discord

Discord (server) folder contains some or all of your servers. It is located in the server list (left bar). To remove a server folder from Discord on your desktop, do the following:

  1. Log in to your Discord account.
  2. Locate the folder you want to remove in the server list.
  3. Click on the folder to expand it and view the servers within.
  4. Drag each server out of that folder.
  5. When you drag the last server out, the folder will be removed automatically.

If you are using Discord on your mobile device:

  1. Open your Discord app.
  2. Click on the three horizontal lines in the top-left corner of the screen.
  3. Expand the folder you want to delete by pressing it once.
  4. Hold your finger on one of the server icons until it expands and drag it out of the folder.
  5. Do this for the remaining servers and the folder will automatically disappear.

Note: Unfortunately, the only way to remove a folder from Discord is by manually removing the servers from it until the folder is empty. Also, you can’t remove a folder with all the servers within. In this case, you have to leave each server individually.

How Do Server Folders Work on Discord?

With the Discord folder update, you can create folders to organize your servers into groups. Here is what you can do with server folders on Discord.

Create a server folder

You can find your servers in the left bar. To create a server folder, you’ll have to merge two servers. Then, you can add more servers to that folder.

For desktop devices:

• Log in to your Discord account.

• In the left bar, click on a server and drag it over another server.

• When the server icon beneath the server you drag has shrunk, drop the server.

Success! You have created a server folder. Now, add other servers to that folder in the same way. Note: You can’t select multiple servers and drag them into a server folder at once.

For mobile devices:

• Open the Discord app.

• Click on the three horizontal lines in the top-left corner of the screen.

• Hold your finger on one server icon and drag it over another.

• When you see that the outline of the folder has been created, drop the server.

Add other servers to your folder using the same principle.

Move a server folder

Moving a server folder in your server list is the same as moving a single server. Simply, drag the folder to where you want. This method applies to both desktop and mobile devices.

Rename a server folder

Every server folder you create is untitled by default. When you hover your cursor over it, you’ll see the names of the first few servers in that folder. However, you can create a custom name for your server folder.

For desktop devices:

• Log in to your Discord account.

• In the left bar, right-click on the server folder.

• Click on “Folder Settings.”

• In the “FOLDER NAME” text box, enter a new name for your server folder.

• Click “Done.”

Now hover your cursor over the server folder and your custom folder name will appear.

For iOS users:

• Open the Discord app.

• Touch the server folder once to expand it.

• Hold your finger on the server folder icon.

• Select “Folder Settings.”

• Enter the desired name for your server folder.

• Click “done.”

• In the top-right corner of the screen, click “Save.”

Note: Discord for Android does not support this feature.

Change server folder color

Discord doesn’t offer many customization options. Apart from changing the name of your folder, you can only edit the background color.

To customize server folder color on your desktop, follow these steps:

• Log in to your Discord account.

• In the server list, right-click on the server folder.

• Click “Folder Settings.”

• Select one of the recommended colors or enter a specific color code.

Note: The colors of server icons will remain the same within the folder.

For iOS users:

• Open the Discord app.

• Click on the three horizontal lines in the top-left corner of the screen.

• Touch the server folder once to expand it.

• Hold your finger on the server folder icon.

• Click “Folder Settings.”

• In the “FOLDER COLOR” text box, click on the color code.

• Choose one of the suggested colors and click “Save.”

• In the top-right corner of your screen, click “Save.”

Should you want to pick a custom color for your server folder, go back to Step 6, and then:

• Click on the brush icon.

• Drag the circle to the range of colors in the vertical bar.

• In the color square, drag the circle to the specific color that you want.

• Click “Save.”

• In the top-right corner of your screen, click “Save.”

Note: You can’t change server folder color on Android devices.

Notification badges

Just like with regular servers, you will see notification badges in your folder. These notifications may come from any of the servers within. If you want to remove notification badges from your folder, simply:

• Right-click on the server folder icon.

• Click “Mark Folder As Read.”

For iOS users:

• Click on the three horizontal lines in the top-left corner of the screen.

• Touch the server folder once to expand it.

• Hold your finger on the server folder icon.

• Click “Mark Folder As Read.”

Note: Android devices don’t support this feature.
