Screenshots provide a convenient way to capture some funny, awkward, or otherwise memorable moments and preserve them for posterity. Whether it’s an online conversation, a social media post, or a funny spelling mistake, you can easily capture it and share it with your friends in a matter of seconds.

How To Screenshot on the Samsung Galaxy J5/J5 Prime

There are two ways to take screenshots on your Samsung Galaxy J5 or J5 Prime.

Before you proceed with either one, you have to arrange your screen. Make sure that everything you want to capture is actually displayed on the screen and close any apps or windows that you don’t want to show in the image. Once everything’s ready, you are ready to take your first screenshot.

Taking Screenshots Using Physical Buttons

The standard way to take screenshots is to use physical buttons. You only need to press the Power button (on the right-hand side of the phone) and the Home button (on the bottom front of the screen) at the same time and hold them for a few seconds. Make sure to press both buttons simultaneously for this to work. You may need a few attempts to get it right, but it becomes easier with practice.

Release the buttons as soon as you hear a camera flash sound and/or the phone screen start vibrating. You will then see a notification, informing you that you have successfully taken a screenshot. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the notification and access your screenshot. The screenshot will open in your default imaging app and you can edit it the same way you would any other photo.

Taking Screenshots with Palm Swipe Gestures

If pressing two buttons at the same time isn’t as convenient as you’d want it to be, there is another, easier way to take screenshots on your Samsung Galaxy J5/J5 Prime. Namely, you can swipe your palm from one side of the screen to the other without pressing any buttons.

Before you can do this, you will have to enable this feature. Here’s how to do it:

1. Enabling Palm Swipe Captures on Android 5.1

If you’re running an older version of Android, go to Apps and then tap on Settings. From the Settings menu, tap on Advanced Features and swipe down to Palm Swipe to Capture. Tap on it, toggle the switch on, and exit the menu by going back.

2. Enabling Palm Swipe Captures on Android 6.0

On newer versions of Android, you need to go to Apps and then select Setting. Find the Motion and Gestures option and tap on it. You’ll see Palm Swipe to Capture listed at the bottom of the menu. Toggle the switch next to it on and keep pressing the back arrow until you reach the Home screen.

After you’ve turned the feature on, you will be able to take screenshots by swiping the edge of your hand from one side of the screen to the other. When you reach the middle of the screen, you should hear a camera flash sound, confirming that you’ve successfully taken your screenshot. To access it, pull down the notification area at the top of the screen and tap on the thumbnail of your screenshot.

All your screenshots will be saved to your Gallery for easy access. If you can’t find them there, they are likely stored in a subfolder titled Screenshots.
