How To See What Someone Else Likes on Instagram
Can you check someone else’s Instagram likes? Can I see what I have liked in the past? Can you be notified when someone posts an update? Can I share their content on my own Instagram? These are some of the many questions we receive here at TechJunkie and one of my roles here is to answer as many of them as I can.
Today it’s Instagram and I’ll be answering these four questions and perhaps a couple more besides.
Even if you have been using Instagram for a while, there are still new things to learn. It’s a simple platform at first glance. It’s only when you begin exploring under the skin that you realize just how much there is to it.
Can you check someone else’s Instagram likes?
As of October 2019, you’re no longer able to view someone else’s activity from within the Instagram app.
It used to be simple to do this. All you had to do was go to your likes, select the Following tab, and you’d see people’s recent activity. But Instagram eventually saw this as a violation of one’s personal information, so they ditched the feature entirely.
You’re still able to see someone else’s Instagram likes, but it’s a huge hassle.
If you’re wondering if this person liked something from a specific person’s profile:
- Click on this person’s profile
- Select “Following” to see all of the profiles they’re following
- Click a profile they’re following
- View that profile post’s likes to see if the person liked any of them
Note this one fact: this person can hide their activity and make it impossible to see what they do. They can do this b turning off “show activity status” from settings. This will prevent anyone from seeing what they do on Instagram.
Some apps on the Google Play Store and App Store let you track someone’s activity. However, many of these apps will likely require payment. Not all of these apps are legitimate, either.
Can I see what I have liked in the past?
If you liked something recently and meant to go back to study it further but forgot, there is an entire list of your likes that you can refer to if it isn’t in plain sight. It’s a useful feature that can take you back to a post quickly.
- Select your Instagram profile from within the app.
- Select the menu icon and select Settings.
- Click “Account”
- Scroll down until you see “Posts You’ve Liked”, then click it
You should see a list of posts you have liked in the recent past. You can view them as you need or unlike them if you want to.
Can you be notified when someone posts an update?
If you follow someone with who you have a particular affinity or think the stuff they post is cool, you can set up notifications to alerts you to when they post. It’s a simple way to make the best of Instagram and make sure you’re always up to date with what’s going on.
- Open Instagram and select that user’s profile.
- Select the bell next to the three-dot menu icon in the top right of the screen.
- Select which notifications you want to receive: posts, stories, IGTV, and/or live videos.
Now every time that person posts you will see a push notification. You can turn it off at any time by repeating the above process and turn off post notifications. You can also do this for multiple people although all those notifications may become annoying!
Can I share their content on my own Instagram?
This is another network feature of social networks. The ability to post someone else’s post on your own feed. Whether you cannot think of anything to post yourself or you found a post particularly interesting, you can repost it onto your own feed.
- Select the post you want to share on Instagram.
- Select the paper airplane icon below it.
- Select Add Post to Your Story in the popup menu.
The post will now switch to a Story on your feed and you can post it in the same way you would if it were your Story.
Keep in mind that this only works on public accounts. You won’t be able to do this with accounts set to private.
Clear your search history on Instagram
I’m not sure that clearing your Instagram search history is as effective as when you do it on Netflix but you can do it to wipe your account clean if you like. Whether you want to hide guilty searches or want to see if content is being filtered to your tastes, clearing your search history is simple.
- Open Instagram and select the search icon.
- Select See All
- Select Clear All at the top right of the page.
Now your search history is clear and you’re free to indulge in whatever it is you like doing on Instagram.
