How to Tell If Someone Else Is Using Your TikTok Account
In comparison to other social platforms, TikTok is less transparent than its counterparts. However, there is a way to see if someone else is using your account. The process is long and somewhat complicated, but it’s entirely doable.
If you are seeing videos that you didn’t upload and your account is set to private yet you have followers you don’t know, your account may be compromised. If you’re unsure you can follow the tutorial below to see your login information. The first thing you should do if you think your account has been compromised is to change your TikTok password.
How to See Last Active Uses
From iPhone or Android
TikTok lets you check who logged into your account, when, and from which device. The good news is that you can see the notifications inside the mobile app. The bad news is that you’ll have to jump through hoops to obtain the info. Unfortunately, TikTok remains one of the most secretive social media apps on the market.
To see your login info, you’ll first have to request your account data from inside the app’s Settings. Keep in mind that TikTok might take up to two days to compile your info. Also, the report will be available to download for four days. Therefore, make sure to check your profile often and get the ZIP file before the download link expires.
After the download, you can view the login info on your smartphone and inside the app. Let’s see how to request your data.
Requesting your data on TikTok is easy, but the option is slightly tucked away. Here’s how to do it:
Launch the TikTok app on your smartphone. If you’re not logged in, choose how you want to log in and submit your credentials.
After that, you’ll land on the Home screen, and a recommended video will start. Next, tap on your profile icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
TikTok will then take you to your profile screen, which contains your account’s key info. This is somewhat reminiscent of Instagram’s profile page layout. On this page, tap on the Settings icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. Instead of the standard cog, it consists of three vertical dots on Androids and three horizontal dots on iPhones.
You’ll then enter the Settings and privacy screen. Now, tap on the Privacy and safety entry near the top of the list.
When the privacy and safety section opens, look for the Personalization and data section. Tap on the menu entry of the same name located underneath it.
On the next screen, you’ll see the Download your data entry. Optionally, you may also have the personalized ads slider in this section. Tap on Download your data.
TikTok will then display the Download your data page. There, you have two tabs – Request data and Download data.
The Request data tab contains a brief explanation of the data included in your ZIP file. Your profile, Your activity, and Your app settings are the three main categories. TikTok also informs you that it might take the app up to 30 days to process your request.
Tap on the Request data file button near the bottom of the screen.
This step is optional. You can tap on the Download data tab after submitting the request. You’ll see that your file status is pending. Here, TikTok says that it will take one to two days to get your file ready.
Return to this page at least once every 24 hours to check on your request.
Download the Data
After receiving a notification that your file is ready, you can proceed to download it. This process will take a bit longer, so make sure you follow the instructions to a T. Here’s how to do it:
Launch the app and repeat steps 1-6 from the previous tutorial. When you reach the Download your data screen, tap on the download data tab.
You should see the list of your data requests. If this is your first one, the list will have only one entry. If not, tap on the red Download button next to the most recent request.
In this step, you should choose the app through which you want to complete the download. Select your favorite browser.
The browser will then take you to the web version of the official TikTok site. Here, you’ll see all the available login options. Select your preferred method.
Enter your credentials and confirm. We recommend the top option.
TikTok will now show you a Captcha. You’ll most likely have to slide pieces of a puzzle into place.
TikTok will show you the Login success message and redirect you to the Verification page. Here, tap on the Send Code button.
You’ll get a text message from TikTok with a four-digit verification code. Keep in mind that fees may apply every time TikTok sends you an SMS. Enter the code fast, as the timer on the verification page gives you around a minute.
Tap the Continue button.
Your browser will now prompt you to download the ZIP containing your data. Tap on the Download button.
Your browser will download the ZIP file to your device. If you haven’t changed your download settings, you should find the file in the Downloads folder.
See Your Login History
With your account data downloaded, you can now see your login history. Here’s how to do it:
Launch the TikTok app on your phone and login if necessary.
Tap on your profile icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Once you land on the profile screen, look for the Inbox icon in the bottom menu. Tap on it.
Instead of the classic inbox, you’ll see a combination of your activities. This section is called All activity. Find the Account Updates entry and tap on it.
TikTok will then take you to the Account Updates screen. There, you’ll see various notifications regarding your account and system. Find the most recent Account Login notification and tap on it.
Finally, you’ll see the Manage Devices screen. There, TikTok will list all devices that are logged in to your account.
From PC or Mac
TikTok isn’t famous for being user-friendly when it comes to the availability of account data. This means that the route described above is the only way to get it. Unfortunately, your profile on the desktop version of the TikTok site can’t help you. You can view your profile, but you can’t access account settings.
How to Log Out All Other Devices
From Android or iPhone
Now it’s time to log out all other devices. You can do that from the Manage Devices screen. There are two ways to reach it – the one we described in the previous section and via Settings.
To get to it through Settings, you should tap on the Settings icon on your profile screen. After that, tap on Manage My Account, followed by Manage Devices. If you don’t see this entry, try the previous route.
Now that you’re on the Manage Devices screen logging out other devices is a breeze. The first entry will be your current device. Below it, TikTok will display all other devices that are logged in to your account.
To remove a device, tap on the trash can icon to its right. TikTok will then prompt you to confirm your decision. Tap on the Remove option in the pop-up screen.
From PC or Mac
Again, TikTok fails to deliver to desktop and laptop users. Unfortunately, you can’t log out of other devices via the official website. You can only log out from your current device – your computer, tablet, or phone. Hopefully, TikTok will address this issue in the future. However, for now, the platform firmly steers its users toward the mobile app.
If you fear your account has been compromised, you can take steps to increase its security. You can change your password and run an antivirus scan on your device.
Change Your Password
Here’s how to reset your password on TikTok:
Launch the TikTok app on your phone and login if necessary.
Tap on the profile icon.
Tap on Settings.
Next, select the My Account section, followed by Password.
TikTok will then send you a four-digit code via a text message or email. Enter it into the required fields.
Enter your new password and tap Next.
TikTok will return you to the Manage my account screen, with a notification that you changed your password.
To increase the safety of your device or devices you use for TikTok, you can give them an antivirus scan. Launch your antivirus program and go for a full system scan. Be sure to keep it active in the background, so that it can continue protecting you.
Now you know how to see and manage devices on TikTok. In the future, always have a strong password and antivirus software up and running.
