Elon Musk readies “Part 2” of his Tesla master plan

Elon Musk has teased on Twitter that he’ll be publishing and enacting part of his “Top Secret Tesla Masterplan” later this week.

Elon Musk readies “Part 2” of his Tesla master plan

Why is stage two of Tesla’s company plan so darn interesting? Well, it looks as though Musk plans to take the automotive company in a completely new direction. Back when Tesla was Tesla Motors, Musk’s master plan outlined the cars that became the Tesla 3 and Tesla S. Now Tesla is, well, just Tesla, it’s likely that “Part 2” will involve different aspects of Tesla’s business  – namely its Powerwall technology.

Musk needs to find a way to address the growing concerns of its Autopilot self-driving technology after the couple of car crashes that have happened, it’s unlikely this will factor into his second-stage master plan. In fact, it’s Tesla’s bid for Musk’s other company, SolarCity, that’s likely to be key for the evolution of Tesla.

Bear in mind that Tesla is a tech company first, not a car manufacturer. By expanding into solar energy with this acquisition, Tesla’s goal of building a sustainable-energy future becomes possible.

Musk outlined on Tesla’s blog that by having SolarCity, Tesla customers can become energy-independent. They’d be able to use SolarCity’s panels to charge the Powerwall and thus keep their car topped up for less. He also mused that the technology could “go into a store or go online and, with a few clicks, you can have everything from solar panels to batteries to electric cars”.

Whatever the second stage of Tesla will look like, it will be interesting to find out what Musk sees as the future of his business.
