How to Unlock My LeapFrog Epic

The LeapFrog Epic is a great tablet for children as it allows you to keep any inappropriate content away. This is done by having separate account profiles for using the device and for administration. While users can be both children and parents, the administration profile is reserved exclusively for parents.

By using a parental lock code, you can access the options to change user and device settings. For security reasons, it’s always recommended that you don’t write down the code on a piece of paper or keep it unprotected on your computer or smartphone. You’re much better off committing the code to memory, especially if you have an adventurous kid.

Of course, it’s not unusual for people to forget the code and be plain out of luck when it comes to accessing the settings menu.

LeapFrog has a simple retrieval process just for that, which allows you to reset your parental lock code from the official website.

Resetting the Parental Lock Code

You can do this by going to the LeapFrog website from your smartphone or computer.

1. Open your preferred web browser and go to leapfrog.com.
2. On the home page, click the “Log In / Register” button in the upper right corner.
   
3. In the Log In/Register screen, enter your email address and password, and click the “Log In” button.
   
4. The “My Account” screen will appear.
5. In the section “My Profile”, click “Account Information”.
   
6. In the “Account Information” screen, scroll down to the section titled “Parent Lock for Wireless Devices”.
7. Here you will see a list of LeapFrog devices registered to your account.
8. At the end of each entry is a 4-digit parental lock code.
   

With your code in hand, simply return to your LeapFrog tablet and access the Parent menu by entering the code.

Changing the Lock Code

If you find your default code hard to remember, you may consider changing it. To do that, go to the “Account Information” section of your LeapFrog account, as described in the previous section.

Look for the “Change Password” option. Next to it, on the right side, you’ll see the “Edit” button. Tap it to change any of your credentials, be it your log-in password or parental lock codes.

Restoring LeapFrog Epic to Factory Settings

Your LeapFrog device may slow down over time. This is not unusual for smart devices in general, as they tend to end up with too many installed applications. This causes the storage space and memory to fill up with a whole bunch of unused temporary files.

To keep your tablet working as intended, it’s advised to perform an occasional full factory reset. This will clear the device of any unnecessary files and allow you to install afresh applications that you actually plan on using.

This is done through the “Factory data reset” option in the Parent menu.

As you probably know, this will erase all data from your LeapFrog Epic’s internal storage. You might want to back up whatever you can’t afford to lose first. In addition, make sure that your battery is at least 50% charged, or just keep the tablet plugged in to be absolutely sure.

1. On the LeapFrog Epic home screen, tap the “Parent Settings” icon in the upper right corner.
   
2. To confirm your identity, enter the 4-digit Parent Lock Code, after which the Parent menu will appear.
3. Tap “Device”.
   
4. Tap “Device Settings”.
   
5. Tap “Reset”.
   
6. Tap “Factory data reset”.
   
7. Tap “Reset tablet”.
   

After confirming the reset, it’s going to take your tablet several minutes up to a half hour. Leave it alone in the meantime. You will know that the reset was successful the next time you see the home screen.

Always Keep the Parent Code Away from Children
