It can be a lot to navigate, especially if you’re just looking to ignore the noise coming from the media industry and just want to actually watch some quality entertainment.

At TechJunkie, our main goal is to help you move past the confusion that can often come with technology, and that -How To Clear from Recently Watched on the Amazon Fire TV Stickincludes streaming services. If you’re looking for the easiest way to watch new media platforms like Netflix or Hulu, the Amazon Fire TV line of devices is a great place to start, and though there’s several different devices to choose from, it’s the Fire Stick that many users have become so accustomed to using to watch movies and TV shows. The Fire Stick is an easy piece of technology to learn, but sometimes, it can be complicated for newcomers to the platform. Case in point: why does your Recently Watched get bogged down with so many titles you checked out previously? In this guide, we’ll take a look at how to clear out your Recently Watched to make it easier to browse titles.

What is an Amazon Fire Stick?

The Amazon Fire TV Stick, known colloquially as a “Fire Stick,” is a small streaming device manufactured by Amazon that allows you to watch videos streamed over your internet connection to your television. Though it wasn’t the first Amazon Fire TV device, it’s by far the most popular, and competes directly with the likes of Roku and Google Chromecast in the budget streaming device market.

The device plugs into the back of your television through HDMI (either with the stick itself or using the bundled adapter for tight connections), and connects to your home WiFi connection in order to deliver media straight to your television using apps, just like your smartphone. It’s powered through the included microUSB cable, plugged into the back of your television or into an AC adapter, and it takes up very little space behind your television. The remote was recently updated, and can now control your television’s power and volume, in addition to the typical play/pause and navigation options on the remote.

How to Clear Items from Recently Watched List?

Let’ say you’ve been watching your favorite documentary series, your mom watched her soap, while dad binged on his favorite reality show. You also had some friends over and with them you watched some football and action movies. With all shows and movies heaped on top of each other, the “Recently Watched” list might look a bit hectic and hard to navigate in case you’d like to find an episode of that documentary series and watch it again.

So for cleaning up the list, there’s a quick and easy solution. Before you start, you’d want to make sure your TV is on and your Fire TV Stick is properly connected. Then, we’ll dive into various ways to clear up your list.

Home Screen

For most people, this is likely what you’re trying to clean up on your device, since your Recently Watched list is one of the first things shown on your home screen. Based on your activity, Fire TV Stick will display a set of recommendations from the “Recent” section on the “Home” page. The recommendations will be shown in the form of a carousel. If you’d like to remove an item (regardless of its type) from the carousel, simply navigate to it and select the “Remove from Recent” option. This will remove the item from both the carousel and the “Recently Watched” list. Again, deleting an item from the carousel will not remove it from the library or from your device.

However, if you’d rather remove specific content from your Movies or TV lists, you can do that too at the appropriate tabs along the top of the screen.

Remove a TV Show

If you want to remove a TV show, follow this path. First, navigate to the “TV” tab in the “Main Menu” and select it. After that, you should browse for the TV show that you want to delete from the list. Once you’ve located it, you should select the “Remove from Recently Watched” option. Your Fire Stick will then remove the unwanted item from Recently Watched. Repeat the same process if you have additional items to remove. This will, however, not remove the item from the “Video Library”, as the content you purchased is on the cloud and can’t be deleted via a Fire TV device.

Remove a Movie

If you want to remove a certain movie from Recently Watched, the procedure is largely similar to the one above. First, locate the “Movies” tab in the “Main Menu” and access it. After that, find the movie that you want to delete from the list and select it. Then, choose the “Remove from the Recently Watched” option. If there are more videos to remove, repeat these steps as necessary. Bear in mind that this will not remove the film from your “Video Library”.

Having a messy Recently Watched can be really inconvenient, especially for users who share their Fire TV Stick with roommates or family. It is, therefore, handy to know how to clean it up from time to time. Hopefully, you found this article interesting and helpful.

My Recently Watched list is missing many shows. There are gaps in the list, and it changes.

Yeah, “remove from recent” not functioning any longer for me either. There clutter is right back on the “recently watched” page seconds after using that option. Will reset to factory default as suggested.

I’m having the same problem with a show I’ve watched on my prime account. Any help would be great. Thanks

This is probably a little extreme but, I finally just reset my device back to the defaults. It has not happened again as this was months ago.
Gary says:
Same issue here. I choose “Remove from recently watched” and it is gone. However, the next time I go to the home screen, it is there again.

I’m having the same problem — 2 movies that I’ve “removed from recently watched list” SEVERAL times and they disappear and then immediately show back up. No matter how many times I’ve done it, they still show up in the recently watched carousel on the home screen.
Maine Hager says:
Same here. I cleaned up my home page and “removed” items from the recent carousel. Two movie keep reappearing after being removed multiple time, I mean everytime I am at the Home page. Please advise.
Ron Thomas says:
I have rented Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in the past, and it was of course listed under “Recent” on my Firestick. I removed it from there, but it keeps reappearing on the list. Is there some way to remove it without it reappearing back on the list?
