How To Send a Text From a PC to an iPhone

Nowadays, many of us prefer the convenience of text-based communication to the time-sensitivity of phone calls. However, typing numerous text messages can also become tedious and time-consuming. When you’re already on your computer, reaching for your phone to do this can be a serious disruption to your workflow, too.

How To Send a Text From a PC to an iPhone

Using a solution that allows you to get all your text messaging done right on your PC can be a game-changer. If you are wondering how you could do that, here are 10 ways to send a text from a PC to an iPhone.

Send Text From a PC to an iPhone

From built-in solutions through third-party apps to various websites, there are many ways to send a text message from your PC:

Use iMessage From Your Mac

If you’re a Mac user, you’re in luck. You won’t need to go to great lengths to fully leverage Apple’s messaging service from your device. Your Mac came with iMessage already installed; you just need to sign in with your Apple ID, and you can start right away. Here’s how to send a text from your Mac:

  1. Find the iMessage icon in your Applications folder (a speech bubble on a green backdrop).
  2. Sign in with the same ID you use for your iPhone.
  3. Click “New Conversation,” and you’ll be able to input any number, email address, or contact name.

iPhone users will find the iMessage app extremely convenient. Its main advantage is that it will sync automatically: messages sent from your Mac will appear on your iPhone and vice versa. To allow syncing and get your previous conversations to appear at once, do the following:

  1. Open iMessage on your Mac and click “Messages,” then “Preferences…”
  2. Enable iCloud syncing from the “iMessage” tab. Note that you need to enable this option on your iPhone as well.

Windows users may get envious of the simplicity of iMessage; however, beware of iMessage solutions for Windows you may come across. iMessage is available for Apple devices only.

Use the Phone Link App on Windows

If you’re on Windows, what you’re looking for is the Phone Link app. Formerly known as “Your Phone,” this app does much more than just send text messages. It essentially connects your PC with your phone and allows you to manage notifications, make calls, and more. Some phone models may have access to more advanced features as well.

The Phone Link app is free to download and pre-installed on some devices. You won’t have trouble using this app, thanks to its simple interface.

Use Google Messages

Another app that allows you to send messages as if from your phone is Google Messages. You will need to connect your phone to your PC to use this handy tool:

  1. Launch the Google Messages app on your Android and tap the three vertical dots in the upper right corner.
  2. Choose “Device Pairing” and activate the QR code scanner.
  3. Open the Google Messages website in your desktop browser.
  4. Scan the QR code with your phone.

Once paired, you can use the Google Messages desktop app to send text messages.

Use Pushbullet

Another app that allows your Android to communicate with your PC is Pushbullet. You can send up to 100 text messages per month through the free version of this app. This is what you need to do to set it up:

  1. Sign up through the Pushbullet website on your desktop.
  2. Download the Pushbullet Android app and sign in with the same method you used on your PC.
  3. The app will prompt you to enable notifications and allow sending and receiving text messages. Give all the necessary permissions.
  4. Go back to your PC and click “Set up your computer.”
  5. Install the app.

Once installed, you will see the “SMS” option in the sidebar. You will be able to browse conversations and send text messages from there.

Tip: Remember that you enabled notifications while setting up the app. If they’re disruptive, you can mute them from their popup alert.

Use Your Email

Did you know that you can send text messages through email? This method may not be the most convenient, but it is an option. It can come in handy when you lose your phone and have no other way to contact someone. The drawback of this method is that it requires a bit of research.

You need to know the phone number and the service carrier of the person you want to reach. In addition, you also need to look up the domain the carrier in question uses. Here’s how to send a text through email:

  1. Create a new email and write your message.
  2. In the address bar, type the 10-digit phone number of the recipient, followed by the getaway address of the mobile carrier.

Each carrier has its own getaway address. For instance, if the recipient uses Verizon, you will need to put “@vtext.com.” This means that you might have to do a quick Google search before you can send your mail.

The other drawback of this method is that it doesn’t actually connect your phone to your PC. Therefore, the message the recipient gets won’t see your phone number or contact name as the sender.

Use Your Carrier’s Website

Some carriers also offer the option of sending text messages through their website. In addition, some may even have apps you can download and use on your PC. For instance, Verizon offers a messaging app called Message+ with many more functions than just text messages. Check whether your carrier offers any useful features like this.

Use an SMS Sending Website

You are probably aware of SMS sending websites. While these are not the best solution for the task, they can be used when there’s no other option. Remember that you will never be sure that the text message sent through such a website was delivered. Some websites may also not be secure and collect the phone number you input. However, these websites allow you to stay anonymous, and you might also be able to send messages internationally. A few free SMS sending websites you can check out include:

Check the Samsung Messaging App

If you’re using a Samsung device, you might be able to leverage Samsung’s dedicated messaging app to send text messages. The Samsung Messaging App should already be installed on your Galaxy Tab Pro S, Galaxy Book 2, Galaxy Book 10.6 LTE, or Galaxy Book 12 LTE. While this app is not being widely used yet, those with Samsung devices certainly want to stay on the lookout for further updates.

Download a Chat App

If none of the above solutions suits you, you can also consider alternative ways of getting your message across. If the other party uses a chat app on their iPhone, you might not need to stick to SMS. Download the app’s desktop version or simply use it from your browser.

Most chat applications will offer both options. Whether your friend uses WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Skype, or any other chat app, you can easily communicate with them from your PC.

Use Google Voice

Those who have a Google Voice account can also use this app for sending text messages. However, you will need a Google Voice number to use this feature. Upgrading your Google Voice is free, though, and with a number, you’ll be able to text as many as seven contacts at once.

Start Texting From Your PC

Sending your text messages from your PC will allow you to type faster and get back to your work in no time. Countless desktop apps can communicate effectively with iPhones. However, not all messaging solutions are equal, so it’s important to be aware of all your options.
