How to Update Your Phone Number in Venmo Through the Website on a PC

You can also update your personal details via the website. Here’s how to update your phone number:

What to Do if You Can’t Access Your Old Line?
At the risk of stating the obvious, you need to be signed in before you can update your phone number on Venmo.
One way Venmo keeps accounts safe from unauthorized access is by using Multifactor Authentication (MFA). When signing in, you may be required to enter a code sent to the phone number or email linked to your account. When you’re updating your phone number and still have access to the old one, you’ll therefore be able to receive the code and sign in without any problems. But what if you no longer have access to your old number?
If you wish to update your phone number but don’t have access to your old line, you have two options.
First, you should attempt signing in using a device previously used on your Venmo account. This may allow you to sidestep Multifactor Authentication, and you’ll sign in and update your number without problems.
Alternatively, you can enter your old number and password and then wait for the Multifactor Authentication page to open. Rather than enter the code (which you don’t have), it would be best if you tried to confirm your identity in other ways or specify that you no longer have access to your old phone. These options will usually appear under the box where you’re required to enter the code. If you do this, Venmo will present you with an alternate way to confirm your identity.
If there are no other options to confirm your identity, you should contact Venmo’s support team. They’ll then help you to sign in to your account, but they’ll require you to provide information like:
- Your name and contact information as provided during the registration process
- The full routing number If you’ve linked your account to a bank
- Provide the first six and last four digits on your card if you linked your Venmo account to a debit card
To ensure the security of your account, you should not give the full account number or card number to Venmo’s support team. Once the support team is satisfied with the information provided, you’ll be able to sign in and edit the phone number or the other details as you see fit.
What do I do if my new number is already registered with Venmo?
Signing up on Venmo sometimes isn’t a smooth sail. You may receive an error message indicating that your phone number is already registered. If this happens to you, the best thing to do is contact the Venmo support team for help. While you’re at it, indicate your phone number to help the team expedite the process.
It’s important to note that the “phone number is already registered” error message can be down to a previous incomplete sign-up attempt. However, it can also be caused by other issues beyond your control, such as a system malfunction.
Can I just remove my phone number from Venmo?
The answer is no. You can’t remove your phone number from Venmo. You need a verified phone number for transactions. Without it, you can’t send or request payments. However, you’re allowed to replace the original number whenever you want.
Can I sign up for Venmo without a phone number?
You can sign up for Venmo without a phone number, but you won’t be able to do any business. You can only start making or receiving payments once your account is verified with a phone number via a text message code.
Can I Create a New Account With a New Number?
Although you can create a new account even when you have another active account with an old number, it’s not recommended. In fact, it’s illegal to do so under the User Agreement. You could experience a myriad of issues with payments, such as delays and reversals.
Switch Numbers Conveniently on Venmo
While Venmo is an excellent tool for transferring money to your friends, it’s also possible that you may need to change your phone number at some point. It takes only a few moments to update this information. Once updated, all future transactions will be sent through the new number.
