What is Instant Invite in Discord?

The Instant Invite feature allows Discord users to easily gather their friends on their servers. You will find this feature extremely helpful in different situations.

What is Instant Invite in Discord?

Maybe you want to raid a certain dungeon in World of Warcraft with your 10 WoW buddies? Perhaps you just want to storm into Area 51 and need a place where you’ll make all of your plans? With the Instant Invite feature on Discord, you can do that in no time.

This article will show you how you can use this feature.

Discord 101: The Instant Invite Feature

As mentioned above, the Instant Invite feature allows you to add Discord friends to your server. To be more specific, it allows you to send them invitations which they can either accept or decline.

Although using this feature is pretty straightforward, we will show you what you can do to make it even easier.

Sending Invites

To invite Discord friends to join your server, you’ll have to do the following:

  1. Open your Discord server that you want to invite your friends to.
  2. Click on the Instant Invite icon next to your channel’s name.
  3. That will take you to the Instant Invite Panel from which you can send invites.

The Invite Panel contains the invite link and buttons. This link can be used to invite your Discord friends to that specific server. In other words, you can’t invite them to all of your servers using that same link. To invite Discord friends using this link, simply copy it and send it to your friends’ DMs.

If you haven’t tweaked the initial settings, this link will be available for 24 hours. That means that the friends who receive this link will have one day to respond to the invite. If they don’t click on the invitational link before it expires, it would be the same as if they declined it. You can send them a new one after that time period has passed.

Besides the invite link, you’ll notice a few Invite buttons next to some of your Discord friends. The friends that are displayed are the ones that you’ve chatted with most recently.

Simply click on the Invite button next to the friend that you want to invite. They will immediately receive the invitation to join your server.

Use the search bar above to find other Discordians that aren’t displayed in the Invite Panel box.

NOTE: You can also use a shortcut to send invites to your Discord friends. Simply right-click on their icon and select Invite to Server. This will open another set of options from which you’ll need to select the appropriate server. You can do this from anywhere in Discord. If you don’t see the server that you want, you should enable the Create Instant Invite Permission option for your role on that server.invite to server

Editing the Invite Link

Like we briefly mentioned above, if you’ve never adjusted the Invite Link settings, they will have the default values for all their features. Adjusting these settings will give you more control over the invites that you send.

To access the Invite Edit Panel, simply click on the Edit Invite Link option. You will find it at the bottom of the Invite Panel box.

The section below explains all of the features that you’ll be able to adjust.

Expire After

As its name suggests, this feature allows you to set the duration of the invite. Its default value is 24 hours.

You can choose between 24 hours, 12 hours, 6 hours, an hour, and 30 minutes. So, if you choose 12 hours, your Discord friends will have that much time to click on the link before it expires.

Max Uses

The Max Uses feature allows you to set how many times your invite link can be clicked. The maximum number that you can choose for this feature is 100 uses. You can also set this feature to have no limit at all.

Your other options are 50, 25, 10, 5, and 1.

Temporary Membership

The Temporary Membership feature is located below the previous two. If you enable this option, the members that have recently joined your server will automatically get kicked when they disconnect. This only applies if those members don’t have any roles assigned to them.

Creating a Permanent Invite

You can create an Invite Link that lasts forever if you properly use the features mentioned above. This is a pretty nifty Discord trick that you can use to avoid worrying about the link’s duration.

Here’s how to set your features to create a permanent invite:

  1. Expire After should be set to Never.
  2. Max Uses should be set to No Limit.
  3. Toggle Temporary Membership off (optional).

Those settings will create an invite link that has infinite uses.

To save everything, you’ll have to click on Generate a New Link at the bottom of the Edit Panel.

NOTE: To avoid unplanned guests on your server, you’ll have to be very careful who you send the invite link to. You need to be aware that anyone can enter your server if they have the right link.

Gather Your Friends on Discord

Hopefully, this article has helped you understand the Instant Invite feature and how to use it. You can now easily invite all your friends and gather them on your Discord server.
