Next up is the brand-new Enermax Modu82+ 525W (number 6 in the image), offering an extra 125W of headroom on three +12V rails.

Enermax Modu82+ 525W review

Each of these rails is rated at an unusually high 25A, which is great for high-end graphics (some manufacturers recommend you drive their cards from a rail rated at 20A or above).

It’s a highly efficient supply, averaging an impressive 85.3% power conversion, and temperatures are kept to a cool 31C at full load.

It’s quiet, too, emitting only a gentle, business-like hum. It uses a modular design, so most cables are detachable from the supply, which is great for air-flow and keeps your case uncluttered.

The only downside is that, at its introductory RRP of £69, the Enermax is nearly twice the price of the Akasa.

You can save a bit by picking the £60 non-modular version, or waiting for prices to fall.
