For instance, if you use a bright text color on a bright background, there will be less contrast, and your text will be invisible. If your audience can’t read your slides, they’ll won’t get much out of your presentation. For that reason, knowing how to change text color on your Google Slides is of paramount importance.

How to Change the Color of Text in Google Slides

There are multiple ways of changing the text color in Google Slides. This article will help you enhance the visual appeal of your slides.

How to Change Text Color in Google Slides

There are countless benefits of using unique text colors in your slides. First, a text color that contrasts well with the background makes the text readable, enabling your audience to capture content at a glance.

The text color also helps to emphasize keywords or important details. For businesses, using text colors that align with your brand makes your presentation cohesive and professional.

Method One: Using the Format Menu

Here are the methods you can use to change Google Slides text color on your desktop:

  1. Launch your Chrome browser and log in to your Google account.
  2. Navigate to “Google App” in the top right corner and select “Google Slides” from the apps.
  3. When Google Slides loads, tap the “Add” sign to create new presentation slides or open an existing presentation.
  4. After adding text to your slides, go to the first slide and highlight the text with the color you want to edit.
  5. Navigate to the toolbar menu at the top and tap “Format.”
  6. From the drop-down menu that appears, tap “Text.” This will open another drop-down menu to the right. If the text option is grayed out, you’ve not highlighted the text.
  7. Scroll towards the bottom and tap “Color.” This will display the default colors available in Google Slides.
  8. Tap the color you want to apply to your text, and you’ll be done. Repeat the process for other slides.

Making a Custom Color

If you can’t find the color you want from the default colors, you can create your custom text color as follows:

  1. Open your presentation slide and select the text whose color you want to edit.
  2. Tap the “Format” menu and select “Text.” Hit “Color” from the drop-down menu.
  3. Go to the custom action in the color display and hit the “Plus” icon. This will open a rectangular color picker from which you can select your colors.
  4. There are three methods you can use to pick your colors:
    • Using the hex code: If you know the hex code or the six digits of the color you want, go to the hex section and enter them in the three boxes provided. Hit “OK” when you finish to apply the color to your text.
    • Using the hue slider: Beneath the color picker, you’ll see a bar with different colors. Press and hold, then move the slider until you find your desired color.
    • Using the eyedropper: If you have the color you want to apply to your text in the slide theme, tap the “Eyedropper” (resembles a syringe) beneath the color picker. This will take you back to the slide. Move the eyedropper to the color you want and tap it to select it on the color picker. Hit “Ok” to apply it to your text.

Method Two: Using the Toolbar Menu

  1. Open the presentation whose text color you want to edit or tap the “Add” button to create a new presentation.
  2. When your slides are ready, go to the first slide and highlight the text you want to edit color.
  3. In the toolbar menu, tap the “A” button with a colored rod beneath it. If you can’t see it, hit the “More options” (three vertical dots) menu in the top right corner and locate it from there.
  4. Pick the color you want from the display to apply to the highlighted text.
  5. If you can’t find the color you want, go to the custom section and tap the “Plus” button. Proceed as explained above to create your custom text color.

Method Three: Using the Master Slide

If you have many slides, manually editing the text color of each one can be time-consuming. Fortunately, you can use the master slide to duplicate the text color edits to other slides.

  1. Prepare the slides whose color you want to edit.
  2. Navigate to the toolbar at the top and tap “View.”
  3. Select “Theme builder” from the drop-down menu. This will open the master view.
  4. Hit the “Master slide” (the first one in the left side pane) to start editing.
  5. To change the text color of your title, select “Click to edit theme title style.” Go to the “Color” (A) menu in the toolbar and choose the color you want.
  6. To edit the subheading color, highlight “First level” and choose the color you want from the “Color” menu in the toolbar.
  7. Select “Second level” for normal text color and choose your desired color from the “Color” menu in the toolbar.
  8. Hit the “Exit” button (X) in the top right corner to exit the master view. When you return to your slide, the color edits will be applied.

What to Remember When Changing Google Slides’ Text Color

Apart from creating valuable and informative content to grab your audience’s attention, you should also consider how you use text color.

  • Readable against your slide background: If your background is dark, use a bright text color and vice versa to create contrast. Your text will be easy to read and understand.
  • Use three colors at most: Too many colors can make your slide appear unprofessional and cluttered. Stick to a few colors and be consistent with them on all slides.
  • Prioritize legibility over aesthetics: Although you might want to use colors to evoke emotions and create a specific mood, you shouldn’t use them at the expense of your content. You should balance delivering valuable content and making it visually interesting.
